Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel

|
Benefits of Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel include good weldability and workability, high resistance to corrosion fatigue, stress corrosion cracking (especially chloride stress corrosion cracking) and erosion, and high energy absorption.
Other advantages of Duplex 2205 are higher heat conductivity and low thermal expansion compared to austenitic stainless steels, high strength, good resistance to sulfide stress corrosion, and high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Duplex stainless is a combination of ferritic and austenitic compositions, resulting in excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and greater strength.
Primary Elements: chromium and nickel. Duplex stainless steels have better yield and tensile strengths, but less toughness than austenitic steels in stock sizes ranging from 1/2"-12"
Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel is composed of between 19.5 and 21.5 percent Chromium, 4.5 to 6.5 percent Nickel, 3 to 3.5 percent Molybdenum, 2 percent Manganese, and 1 percent Silicon, with the balance being Iron.
Also found in Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel are trace amounts of Carbon, Phosphorus, Sulfur and Nitrogen.
