Super Duplex Stainless Steel

Benefits of Super Duplex Stainless Steel include good weldability and workability, a high level of thermal conductivity, high resistance to corrosion fatigue, stress corrosion cracking (especially chloride stress corrosion cracking) and erosion, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Other advantages of Super Duplex Stainless Steel are higher heat conductivity and low thermal expansion compared to austenitic stainless steels, high-energy absorption, high strength, good resistance to sulfide stress corrosion and high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Primary Elements: Composed of a significant amount of Chromium (between 19.5 and 27 percent), Nickel, Molybdenum, and Manganese, with the balance being Iron. Also found in Super Duplex Stainless Steel are trace amounts of Carbon, Phosphorus, Sulfur, Silicon, Nitrogen and Copper.

History: First used in the 1980s, the phrase "Super-Duplex" refers to a highly alloyed, high performance Duplex Stainless Steel with a high pitting resistance. Super Duplex Stainless Steel is noted for its high level of chromium, which gives Super Duplex excellent resistance to acid chlorides, acids, caustic solutions and other harsh environments. Super Duplex Alloys are often used in hostile settings found in the petrochemical, pulp and paper, and chemical sectors, frequently replacing Nickel-based Steels and 300 Grade Stainless Alloys.
